Prayer for Sunrise

The Earth rolls forward with silent thunder,
turning toward the Sun in the false dawn.
I stand on the wet grass, anticipating the sunrise.
While, far away, at the edge of vision,
the goddess Dawn opens her gates and the Sun enters the day.
Open your gates wide, youthful one, do not hold back.
Open your gates, Ushas, and let him stride forth,
so the morning prayers might start
and the day's business begin.
