Prayer for Summer's End

The door is starting to swing from hot to cold.
Although it is still summer, occasionally a cool day comes.
The pokeberries are purple, the sassafras is starting to turn, and the gardens are heavy with tomatoes.
It is time to stop and pay attention: the spirits of the land are very busy.
I pray to them at this luminal time to open my eyes.
Don't let me wake one day and ask where summer has gone.
May I be aware of its going, and be as thrilled with it as I was with the arrival of spring.
